In the midst of the riots of 2020 and numerous cases of police brutality, I created this piece. As a project for Auburn University, our class was tasked with making a sculpture using Ivory Soap. The requirements of this project were to take something clean such as soap and highlight one of the many issues in the world; using something clean to bring awareness to something not. Since this was in 2020, I knew that police brutality being my subject would be perfect. I incorporated several news articles, as well as names of victims of police brutality to pair with the tombstones carved out of soap. On the right, you can see the crossed out police badge as well as the megaphone and rubber bullets. Rubber bullets and megaphones were primarily used during these riots. Lastly, I incorporated the #BLM as it was a very large movement at the time to go with the Black Lives Matter logo, the fist.
